About

I’ve read that a good about page makes or breaks your blog. Whether that’s true or not, we’ll see how much I can do to make myself here.

So thank you for stumbling upon my little corner of the web. My name is Adam J. Cohen. I use the “J.” to help distinguish myself from the hundreds if not thousands of other “Adam Cohen’s” that are out there. That’s another reason why my website isn’t “adamcohen.com” and had been “tryingsohard.com” for so many years: because of Leonard Cohen’s son whom I share a name with.

I also share a hobby with Leonard’s son. I’m a musician and a bit of a jack of all trades. I’m a student at UCF, a husband of almost a year to my wonderful wife–Sarah, a father of two wonderful cats, a budding genius in my own mind in the kitchen, and just an all around regular middle-twenty something guy trying to figure out what his life and the world around him is about, and blogging as he goes along.

I’m no stranger to the world of blogging, having written on a LiveJournal for a good number of years, first under the name “iamzeke” and then under my own name “adamcohen.” And being an English major with a focus in Creative Writing as my first of my two majors, I’ve been published some on other websites or done work as a free-lancer for others too. Most noteably would have to be my tenure as a secondary writer over on HeyItsFree.net. The other major of mine, for those wondering, is Human Resource Management. And I’ll be writing on the business world a bit.

So all in all, Adam, what’s this blog about?

“In 1968 or 1969, Paul McCarney said a wistful and startling thing in an interview. He said that the Beatles had discussed the idea of going out on the road as a bar-band named Randy and the Rockets. They would wear hokey capes and masks à la Count Five, he said, so no one would recognize them, and they would just have a rave-up, like in the old days.
When the interviewer suggested they would be recognized by their voices, Paul seemed at first startled . . . and then a bit appalled.
Memo to Paul McCartney, if he’s there: the interviewer was right. They would have recognized your voices, but before you even opened your mouths, they would have recognized George’s guitar licks. I did five books as Randy and the Rockets and I’ve been getting letters asking me if I was Richard Bachman from the very beginning.
My response to this was simplicity itself: I lied.”
Stephen King’s “Why I Was Bachman”

When I first read that quote a few years ago, something about it really struck a chord with me. I didn’t really understand it till I did a bit more blogging.

Initially, I intended for this to be a professional type of blog. I thought that this would be something of distinction, with a stoic writers voice. I thought that I wouldn’t sink to the simple filler type posts like I used to use on LiveJournal or on MySpace or on other sites.

The fact of the matter is this: I am Adam J. Cohen. This is just a blog about my life, written by me, as me, about me. I could try to say something fancy about how I’m going to write daily about my music, about my schooling, about thoughts in my life, about my cats, or about politics or things I read. The truth is, I’m just going to write what I feel like writing, and this is a blog about Adam J. Cohen. I’m figuring that out as I go along, and I thank you for joining me as I do so…
