ChaCha says what?

Posted on Sunday, June 29th, 2008 in Babbling, Sunday Share.

Remember Ask Jeeves? The search engine where you’d post your search queries as questions? Well, a classmate of mine showed me something similar to that…

ChaCha.com

What it is, is the website of a really unique cell phone service. Running around and have a question? Text your question to 242242 (or “ChaCha”) and in the next few minutes or so, you’ll get a reply back from a real person. Answers change all the time, depending on who’s answering, so you can answer one question and get different answers if its opinion based, but if its factual, well, its a good start.

Forgot who won Superbowl XIV? Ask ChaCha.
Need to know the airborne speed of an unladen swallow? Ask ChaCha.
And if you need a magic 8-ball style answer? Just ask ChaCha.

I’d say that the possibilities are endless. Its just like Googling yourself. Ever do that?

Almost as awesome as a successful Larry Craig joke…

Posted on Sunday, June 22nd, 2008 in Political Musings, Sunday Share.

The other day while reading my usual icanhascheezburger.com, they posted a link that I scoffed at originally. It was a site that supposedly was a more political version without lolcats. And then, I went over and read it and had a smile…

PunditKitchen.com

Yes, my friends. A site that takes the best of lolcats and superimposes it on politics. PunditKitchen.com, which I readily linked for you on the picture.

Now, while I’d like to talk more? I have a class to head to. Back on Monday to talk about campaign public finance and all of that fun stuff. Or maybe, I’ll wait till Tuesday, as it is, just because MSNBC calls every Tuesday Super Tuesday from now till the election…

Happy Father’s Day… Kick back your feet and…

Posted on Sunday, June 15th, 2008 in Babbling, Homelife, Sunday Share.

let a cat lick them!

For this sunday’s Sunday Share, I thought I’d share a little video clip that I took this Thursday with my cell phone. As you can see, that’s my cat Cassandra licking my feet. So to all fathers out there? Kick back your own feet and relax and have a great Sunday there.

Not so cool in real life…

Posted on Sunday, June 8th, 2008 in Sunday Share.

This Sunday Share is sort of a follow up to my social networking rant the other day…

Thanks, Goob, for putting that on one of your sites. In watching that video, it makes me laugh and realize how lame things really are on that side of the track…

Not that I’m much better, I mean, I do update my status constantly on Facebook…

Viva Chuck Todd!

Posted on Sunday, June 1st, 2008 in Babbling, Plugs, Political Musings, Sunday Share.

For this Sunday Share, I want to share something very cool that I found the other day…

Yup, you read it right… Viva Chuck Todd! A site that celebrates the commentary of Chuck Todd, one of my favorite talking heads out there (if you hadn’t figured that out by now). A very well spoken man, its about damn time that someone recognizes how awesome he is… And speaking of how awesome he is…

Oh, and by the way, this blogger here wouldn’t mind if someone got him one of the organic shirts in XL… If you need my address, let me know… :)

A political preface…

Posted on Sunday, May 25th, 2008 in Commentary on the News, Sunday Share.

So for this week’s Sunday Share, well, I’m going to provide a preface for something that I’m going to write out on Tuesday…

I saw this on Friday night on Countdown and I think its worth thinking about and discussing, but I think that there’s a bit that might be over the top…

So, enjoy the politics of it, and we’ll catch you on the flip-side. Have a great Memorial Day, friends…

And down the city from Yankee Stadium…

Posted on Sunday, May 18th, 2008 in Babbling, Sports, Sunday Share.

Following my other Sunday Share a week back on Yankee Stadium, I thought it’d only be fair to show this little clip from the new Citi Field from Keith Olbermann’s visit and subsequential Countdown airing.

While I don’t think that its as cool looking as Yankee Stadium? Its definitely a really nice looking field…

Note: If you’re seeing this entry on a feed, I noticed that last week, unlike YouTube Videos, MSNBC videos do not embed on feed posts. Or at least, not on my Facebook or LJ parts of it… Sorry. You’ll have to come to my blog to watch this one…

A little look inside history in the making…

Posted on Sunday, May 11th, 2008 in Babbling, Commentary on the News, Sports, Sunday Share.

I saw this segment on Countdown with Keith Olbermann last week and I thought it was an nice little piece to share. So while everyone’s enjoying Mother’s Day out there, I thought that I’d give something that might pique the male interest. Behold, new Yankee stadium through the eyes of Keith Olbermann:

A cool little video of the new stadium, as seen by a private tour that he took…

Rewinding this week on Sunday…

Posted on Sunday, May 4th, 2008 in Sunday Share, Vacations.

For this Sunday’s Sunday Share, I thought I’d share a link of where Sarah and I stayed this past week in Helen, Georgia.

Lucille’s Mountain Top Inn

I don’t have too much to say with this one other than the link because it speaks for itself, but I can say that we love staying in Room 4. Faces east and the sun hits your room when it rises, helping you get up for the amazing breakfast they have ready downstairs. If you’re ever on trips and can spring for bed & breakfasts? I can tell you that of all of Sarah’s and my experiences with B&B’s, we always compare it to this one because of the amazing hospitality, rooms, and desserts/breakfasts. Just can’t top it.

And with that last “small filler,” I’ll be back on Monday with a good update…

A bit of a different sort of Sunday Share…

Posted on Sunday, April 27th, 2008 in Plugs, Sunday Share, Vacations.

Good morning, folks. As you read this, I’m sitting in a car beside my lovely wife and heading out of state for a little post final R&R (and some other things, but that’s another post). Yup, again I’m posting a prewritten draft from my cell phone.

And seeing I’ll be gone for a few days and I’ve already queued up to this point, well, I wanted to keep things a bit fresh and different for y’all here, so I’ve asked some of my friends to fill in with some content each day. I have no idea what they’ll even be posting myself, so this’ll be a treat for you and for me to read some content from them. So for today’s Sunday Share, I’d like to plug each and every writer who’ll be taking over in my absence.

Goob - The owner of both Shyzer.com and HeyItsFree.net, I’ve known Goob in the online sense for almost two years now. A very funny writer and a world traveler too, he’s always got a wonderful twist on anything and everything I’ve read from him. And when he actually remembers to update Shyzer, its a damn good site. There’s your hint, buddy. I’m reading and just waiting on your updates.

Karen - The owner of Siren.org, the photographer behind KarenLisa.com, and half of the team of TheWeddingCouple.com, I’ve known Karen since my freshman spring/summer at UCF (we’ll leave years out so she and I don’t feel too old). And I’m proud that I could have been a subject of one of her shoots with my buddy Mikey way back in August.

Rob - While not a blogger in the blogging sense, Rob keeps a LiveJournal which I’ll spare the linkage to. But I will link to his animation. Rob was my freshman roommate and had to put up with sights normal folks haven’t seen. Me? I was subjected to a lot of Vanessa Carlton, Good Will Hunting, and biscuits and gravy. Whether he remembers half of those stories or not.

So there you have it folks. Other than a saved entry from me for a specific day, you’re stuck with these wonderful folks. I’ll probably have them back from time to time when I’m on trips or unavailable, so you can get used to seeing their wonderful faces around here. And as for me? I’d better grab another carrot and pump up some Webbie on our mix CD… Sarah and I have a long trip ahead of us. I’ll see you again soon and I know I’m leaving you in good capable hands…

“The last sigh is the last word spoken…”

Posted on Sunday, April 20th, 2008 in Music, Sunday Share.

About a few months back, you might recall me excessively promoting Seven Mary Three’s new album, dayandnightdriving… I might have also mentioned that I saw them live the CD release weekend for two shows back-to-back… Well, since then? They’ve released the music video for their first single as an acoustic live version from the show:

The video is beautiful, and I can tell you that the moment that the song started, there wasn’t a quiet person in the place. If you listen carefully? You might even hear my voice in the audience. Probably not, but still. This is a band that gives it their all and loves their fans as much as their fans love them…

Listening in front of and behind the scenes…

Posted on Sunday, April 13th, 2008 in Music, Sunday Share.

I’m fairly new to the world of podcasts and podcasting, so I’m much far behind on things. But at the same time, there’s one that I do listen to each and every episode more than others, and that’s this one right here…

Mike Garrigan’s Podcast

For those who haven’t heard his name from me before or heard me talk about Mike Garrigan, well, you haven’t known me very long. Needless to say, Mike is a guitarist/vocalist/singer-songwriter out of North Carolina. Formerly the lead voice of the band Collapsis and the backing guitarist/vocalist in the band Athenaeum, Mike’s a solid songwriter and has been moving to the world of music production and engineering. And at the start of the year, Mike just redid his website and decided to add in a podcast. In a fairly simple format each lasting about 20ish minutes long, Mike plays one studio cut from one of his albums, as well as one or two live outtakes or new studio recordings, and then uses the other time between the songs to talk about recent shows, recording updates, recording information, or just casual friendly things. A really nice guy whom I’ve had the chance to speak with on one occasion and e-mailed with occasionally, its a nice way to see inside the music business and with his blog on his site helps take some of the mysticism out of recording and reminds you that these musicians we listen to are real folks as well.

You could walk, jog, or run, if you really choose to…

Posted on Sunday, April 6th, 2008 in Babbling, Homelife, Sports, Sunday Share.

In light of my post from yesterday about health, I’d like for this Sunday’s Share to be a fun little website that I’ve had bookmarked for a while…

WalkJogRun.net

I was directed to that site almost a year ago on one board or another when I mentioned a goal of mine was to someday run the Disney Marathon, and I’ve used it since. Its a great way to map out trails or paths to continue running to best train yourself with the roads you know and not have to take your car out and reset your odometer to check to see how far you’re going. You can tell the site how many miles an hour you’re running, your average speed you wish to maintain, everything, and it’ll tell you the length of the route you’ve chosen and how long it takes you to complete it at that speed.

And I still use it. Its shown me that I live about 1.67 miles from the center of my campus if I were to walk, my old apartment was 1.92 miles, and that if I were to jog around my apartment complex, two laps is two one-hundredths short of 1 mile.

So when I went for a jog on Friday? I know that I ran a mile. Of course yesterday was 3.25 miles, but that’s because the treadmill told me so…

A fun addition to any home…

Posted on Sunday, March 30th, 2008 in Babbling, Sunday Share.

The other day, I stumbled across what might be one of the coolest pieces of furniture around: a drum table.

Essentially, its a modular table that you can change out the drums in it. It functions as a normal table, but you can drum on it, as shown in the video above, or get together with friends to beat on it and make fun beats. The possibilities are almost endless… And its not the only table that MusicalFurnishings.com has. They make xylaphone style tables/chests/benches/chairs. Very creative ideas…

Is reality really real?

Posted on Sunday, March 23rd, 2008 in Babbling, Sunday Share.

For this sunday’s share, I’d like to double share something…

1) ImprovEverwhere.com Recently this blog/site/group came to my attention because of a VSL e-mail I got about their latest mission. You can watch a video of it here:

Cool, right? Go read about it on their site now if you haven’t already. Well, that’s only one of their many “stunts” that they’ve pulled off… With “No Pants Day,” “Greatest Gig Ever,” and “Fake U2″ amidst many others, the planning and execution of these are beautiful. Just all around beautiful. Their site is a good “waste of time” and has some good laughs amidst it, if you’ve got the time. I added them to my RSS feed in Newzie, so there’s a good chance this won’t be the only time you hear about them from me…

2) Pop Fiction! on E! Ashton Kutcher’s new show on E! is interesting. Essentially, its a “reverse Punk’d” with the celebrities pranking the paparazzi. The show sets up gossip situations with celebrities in on the jokes, trying to see how to make the paparazzi look stupid with these fake news stories. The most prominent one of all of them so far has been the Paris and her guru story. They also did a David Spade picking up a bride and Eva Longoria and Mario Lopez having an affair. There was also one about Avril Lavigne being pregnant which isn’t true. Needless to say, the concept as a whole is interesting. It seems, though, that they’re mostly low-key stunts to the poitn that they’re not making it too far out of the Hollywood/LA circle. Or at least I know Sarah said she hadn’t seen any of these, and she regularly reads these tabloid things. And I only vaguely saw something about the David Spade and the bride, but that was that. You can catch “Pop Fiction” weekly on E! network, just check your local listings…

Anyways, two interesting links to think about… The new “thing” seems to be how far can we push reality and still be real. I like the idea in the case of ImprovEverywhere, but “Pop Fiction” is only passable with me. I think there’s only so much questioning we can do of what’s out there before just settling in to accept it. We’ll see how it goes, though…
